Lyre reads anything on your Mac aloud. Select text in any app, tap one key, and a natural voice takes over while captions follow along. It runs fully on your Mac, so it stays private and works offline.

A reader that stays out of your way.
Fully local and private
Lyre speaks with a neural voice that runs on your Mac. Nothing you read is uploaded, so it works on a plane and your reading stays yours.
Works in any app
Browsers, PDFs, email, notes, code. If you can select it, Lyre can read it, with the same key everywhere.
Live captions
A caption bar follows the voice word by word, so you can glance up and land exactly where the audio is. Colors and size are yours to style.
Your pace, your voice
Eight natural voices and 0.8x to 2x speed, adjustable mid-read from the keyboard. You can also plug in your own ElevenLabs voices.

FAQ
How is this different from Speechify?
Speechify Premium is a subscription that runs about $139 per year and processes your reading in the cloud. Lyre is a $19 one-time purchase that reads on your Mac with a local voice. No account, no upload, no renewal.
Is it really offline?
Yes. The built-in voices run on your Mac with a local neural model, so reading works with no internet at all. The optional ElevenLabs voices are the one exception, since they use your own API key over the network.
What can it read?
Anything you can select and copy: web pages, PDFs, email, documents, chat, code comments. Lyre reads your selection, so it works in every app the same way.
Which Macs does it run on?
Any Apple Silicon Mac, meaning M1 or newer. Intel Macs are not supported because the local voice needs the Apple Silicon chip.
How does the license work?
One payment unlocks Lyre for good. The license is a small offline key, so activation does not need an account or a live server.
How do I try it?
Download the app, select some text, and tap Right-Command. The 14-day trial runs the full app with no card required.
